Those spending the end of their summer in hotels in downtown Los Angeles should venture over to Pershing Square when searching for a unique experience during their stay. Pershing Square is an outdoor concert, event center and public park in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Summer may be almost over, but there’s still plenty of time to catch a free movie, beautiful art or a light show!
Pershing Square presents “Under The Sheets Music” for its fifth anniversary of Friday Night Flicks. Every Friday from July 13 to September 28, some of the music industry’s best documentaries and docudramas are screened on a 40-foot wide by 20-foot high screen with a full sound system. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to lay on the lawn for seating. Picnic baskets and snacks are welcome, but leave cigarettes and alcohol at home. Films begin at dusk.
Event sponsor the Old Bank DVD Store will show films on DVD and Blu-ray. Films include genres hip hop, rock, Latin, festival, and DJ footage. The documentaries center around some of the music industries’ most interesting people and the docudramas reminisce the musical experience. Here is the August/September Schedule:
August 31 – The Future is Unwritten
September 7 – American Reel
September 14 – Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest
September 21— Buena Vista Social Club
September 28 – Made in Sheffield
On September 22, Pershing Square will welcome the fall season with Autumn Lights LA 2012. The event showcases art in the form of light, installations, performances, and music. The light show aims to foster community and international ties to innovation, inspiration, creativity and vision in downtown Los Angeles. The lights will switch on at 6pm, leaving Pershing Square transformed with illuminated artworks, architecture projections, interactive light, photo booths and much more. Over 15,000 people have attended this event in the past. For more information on these events, please visit the Pershing Square website here.
Hope to see you at Pershing Square this fall!
