It’s the beginning of August so we all know what that means…football season is just around the corner! While it’s true that Los Angeles has no professional football team (as of now), there is a great college football scene! The University of Southern California Trojans football team plays at the nearby LA Coliseum which is located near downtown LA and a quick metro ride from hotels near USC.
The first home game of the season is on Saturday, September 7 at 7:30pm against Washington State. All day tailgating is a staple of USC games and the campus provides an amazing venue to hang out, grill, and mingle with family, friends, and other like-minded fans. The campus holds thousands of people, many of whom arrive before dawn to set up elaborate trailers and areas to hang out. Walking through campus on gameday brings about masses of cardinal and gold colors, excerpts from the USC Fight Song, games of cornhole and beer pong, and more. Parking can be limited and expensive so plan ahead, take a cab or the convenient Metro! Before the game, watch the USC Band as they perform some classic USC songs and many others to amp fans up before the big game. Another famous tradition – as you walk to the stadium, don’t forget to kick the lucky flagpoles!
The LA Coliseum is a beautiful stadium and after its recent change of ownership to USC itself as opposed to the State of California and Los Angeles Country, there are sure to be many new changes and improvements. The stadium holds approximately 93,000 fans and when all seats are filled, it truly is quite a site! Don’t forget to check out the nearby Rose Gardens as you walk over to the stadium or head back to the area at a later time to check out the California Science Center, which lies next to the stadium.
If the Trojans aren’t quite your thing, in nearby Pasadena is where the UCLA Bruins host their home games, and those can be just as good of a time! If you’re a college football fan, you know where you need to be on a Saturday in the fall! The Trojans have many home games this season – be sure to check the schedule and get your tickets today to experience one-of-a-kind tailgating and be inside one of the biggest arenas in the US.
