Are you spending Christmas Eve in downtown Los Angeles hotels this year? If so, you can attend a celebration unique to LA at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown Los Angeles. It’s a festive way to learn about other cultures during your stay in Los Angeles!
Seasonal music and dance will come together at this year’s LA County Holiday Celebration at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Bands, choirs and dance companies representing the diverse cultures and holiday traditions of Los Angeles will perform at this free three hour extravaganza. In all, 24 performing groups and nearly 800 artists from all over Los Angeles County will perform live. The concert is funded as a gift from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to the Los Angeles community.
Some of this year’s performers include the Colburn School Choir, Elliot Deutsch Big band, Invertigo Dance Theatre and the Spirit Chorale of Los Angeles. For a full list, click here. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Your L.A.”
Doors open for this event at 2:30pm with no tickets or reservations necessary. People will come and go throughout the three hour celebration so if you can’t get in with the first wave, there is a chance you can enter when people leave. Parking is free in the music Center parking garage.
If you can’t make the live performance, you can watch it broadcast live on KCET and kcet.org or listen live at 90.7 KPFK. The broadcast will repeat on December 24 at 8pm and on Christmas Day at noon and 3pm.
Bring the whole family to this celebration that has been held every year by the Arts Commission since 1959 on Christmas Eve. Over 5000 people attend the event every year and around a million Southern Californian residents watch the live broadcast at home, in competition with the Rose Bowl football game in Pasadena on January 1. Don’t miss your chance to attend this year!
